It would not be a collection of photographs from Liverpool without a picture of the ferry Cross the Mersey, There has been a ferry here since 1150 when the monks of the priory at Birkenhead. started a small ferry crossing, rowing people across the river for a small fee. Things have progressed somewaht since then and we now have boats with engines in them and Birkenhead Priory is a ruin, but bits of it are still there.

Today there are three boats in the fleet, this is the Royal Daffodil, originally the Mountwood until it was refurbished in 1998/1999. The "Royal" prefix was granted to the ferries Iris and Daffodil for their service during Word War 1 where they were instrumental at the Mole inZeebruge. Both ferries were badly damaged by returned home to a triumphant greeting. There have been several Royal daffodils since then.

This was also the boat that was used in the film "Ferry Cross The Mersey" and also in the subsequent hit song by Gerry and the Pacemakers.
