Sunset over Marshside

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has an extensive reserve on the salt marsh flats at Marshside just to the north of Southport. Thousands of geese use this area to feed during the migration season. These are just a few of them.

Classic composition well executed les!
Les Auld: Had to lie down on the bank to get this angle, plenty of midges about as well but worth it I think. Thanks for the comment.

This turns ABS into something quite special. It's an interesting spot I pass it regularly on my way to Formby, I really must stop and have a closer look one of these days.
Les Auld: This was taken from the old sea defence ditch at the back of the reserve, just outside my house. If you come down the coast road on the way to Formby and park in the RSPB car park by where the sand works used to be it is just a short walk to the two hides and you can get some interesting bird pictures from them, especially in the migration season.

Thanks for the comment.

Even offspring has commented on this picture, and he's generally a man of few words, so it must be good!

It's astonishing, and even more so because it couldn't have been posed. This is one of those 'decisive moments' I've been reading about. Thank you ... for being there at the right moment, for having your camera with you and for sharing this with us. .. into my Likeys
Les Auld: Glad you liked it. Geting pictures of the geese at sunset is not too difficult during the migration season as theer are thousands of them flying over Marshside. The spring sunsets are usually quite good as well.

Thanks for the comment.
