photoblog image The American Eagle

The American Eagle

In 1790 the first American Consulate in England was established in Paradise Street, Liverpool. Liverpool rather than London was chosen as it was an important gateway through which many Americans arrived in England. The building was graced by a large sculpture of the Bald Eagle.

The building and the Eagle has now been restored as part of the Liverpool One development, now surrounded by modern shops and offices.
