Soldiering 21st century style

Soldiers from the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment are dropped by Chinook helicopter and a damaged land rover is removed during the fighting. The common factor between the 19th and st century is the smoke and noise.

That's pretty damn surreal, Les. Could be a frame from Theo Angelopoulos movie. I like it a lot.

Les Auld: Glad you like it Z, the smoke and the water mist add to the atmosphere. Thanks for the comment.
GREAT...
Les Auld: Thanks!
Very dramatic! The haziness makes it more so.
Les Auld: Thanks Mary, that's the effect I was aiming for.

wow, excellent capture Les, looks like its straight from the front line, top stuffgrin
Les Auld: Thanks Tim, everything just came together for this.
Great capture. Almost surreal with the helicopter in the haze!
Les Auld: Thanks Richard, I was just standing in the right place. Pure luck.

I see it was wet then, so the Chinook would have blown up a lot of water and stuff. The haze adds an element of film like atmosphere. Excellent picture.

Fortunately this is only and exercise, otherwise I would have wondered about the priorities to pick up a wounded landrover tongue
Les Auld: I know what you mean about priorities Louis, thanks for the comment.
Superb picture Les
Les Auld: Thanks Bill, mostly down to luck and standing in the right place on the day.
The ground smoke gives this a good atmosphere Les, I thought at first you'd popped overseas for this one at the weekwnd.
Les Auld: They sure enjoyed using their smoke grenades Brian. thanks for the comment.

Blimey! That jeep looks awfully close to the guy on the ground! I love the almost ghostly appeareance of the chopper.. very well done.
Les Auld: Thanks Alan, even in exercise it can be a bit dpdgy.

Gosh, now that's "quite a shot" and also something I'd have liked to see for myself - at an airshow I mean, not for real.
Les Auld: Thanks Ellie, unfortunately the last couple of airshows have not had the battle sequences, budget cuts maybe.

It's a great image Les. You could have been a war reporter in some Middle Eastern desert. You have to look hard to see any Lancashire seaweed.
Les Auld: The helicopters blew it all away Ian, thanks for the comment.
