The Riverdance at Cleveleys.
Sunday dawned fine and clear so around mid-day I decided to take a drive up to Cleveleys on the Fylde coast to see the Riverdance grounded on the beach. I should have looked at the tide tables first as the tide was in and I couldn't get down onto the beach so this is taken from the new steps on Cleveleys promenade. It seemed like everybody and their dog had travelled to see the Riverdance that afternoon, so many people walking along the front. This was taken probably a couple of hours earlier than the one posted by Murphys wife, Jean, and from almost the same place. Great minds think alike maybe!

Dramatic shot Les...read about this in the news papers.
Les Auld: It's amazing what some papers will print, thanks for the comment Dave.
What a view! I totally love this shot. Awesome composition.
Les Auld: Thanks Wim, appreciate your comment.
Best shot I've seen so far of the stricken vessel. Great reflections and glistening steps. Strong composition.
Les Auld: Thanks you for saying that Ian, it has grown on me since I posted it.
Bizarre isn't it Les to see a ship turned into an incongruous lump of capsized metal. Nice lighting
Les Auld: You just walk along the front and it is just lying there, amazing the power of nature. Thanks for the comment Chris.
My eyes rested first on the peer and the person walking on it and then I looked at the beautiful steps and the light on the water and finally I looked at the ship, which was almost an after thought... and then it sunk in (pun intended) ---wow that ship is on its side. Very nicely done.
Les Auld: Thanks Kathryn, a small journey through the image, a nice travelogue.
Nice one Les ,thanks for the byline.
Les Auld: My pleasure Mick, thanks for the comment.
Nice one Les ,thanks for the byline.
Excellent picture going to my likeys. The sunwash, silhouettes and curved stairs - excellent. Even the newsworthy item of a sunken ship (agree with Kathryn's comment) in the background.
I was also impressed by Jean's picture.
Les Auld: I also liked Jean's image, thanks for the comment Louis.
Got to agree with the above Les, well done.
Les Auld: Thanks George, seem to be getting a lot of agreements lately.
The contre-jour effect and composition work brilliantly.
Haven't been to see it yet!
Les Auld: Looks like you may only have a couple of weeks left to see it Jose if the news can be believed. thanks for the comment.
Nice shot Les - love the lighting.
Les Auld: Thanks Bernie, always enjoy a bit of Contra Jour.
What brilliant lighting and composition Les, no matter that you couldn't get near, this is really great.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, glad you like it.
Excellent backlight composition. The silhouettes are wonderful!
Les Auld: Thanks Richard, shooting into the light is one of my favourite techniques, sometimes it works.
Super light Les especially on the steps, also the juxtaposition of the various shapes makes for an interesting composition. Add to that a grounded ship and you have a winner! Excellent.
Les Auld: All put there by someone else and just photographed by me, thanks for the comment Mike.
Great lighting and the tones are outstanding Les. Love the composition
Les Auld: Thanks Tracy, glad you like it.
I love the composition of this with the sweep of the glistening steps and the bold horizontal line. What a sad sight to see a huge ship like that capsized.
Ingrid
Les Auld: It is strange to see the ship on its side like a fish out of water, glad you like it Ingrid, thanks for the comment.
Simply stunning image. The glistening water on the steps and the shimmering sea are wonderful. Brilliant capture of this stricken vessel, too...a sad sight.
Les Auld: The spray from the waves gave the effect on the steps, and on me as well as I tried a few angles out. Thanks for the comment Rosalyn.
Same place as Jean's (excellent) picture and a completely different result. This is a corker Les!
Les Auld: Thanks Bill, have to agree that Jean's picture is good though.
Yep, seen every angle from the beach, but this is the 2nd ive seen with these steps in it. A good POV, and different to the rest, congrats
Les Auld: Thanks Ric, pure luck I came across the steps whilst I was walking around Cleveleys.
wonderful light management here and very unusual to see a boat like this one : A likey !!
Les Auld: Thanks Zeb, appreciate the comment.
beautiful shot! nothing else to say
Les Auld: Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.
