photoblog image HMS Manchester

HMS Manchester

Royal Navy ships often make courtesy coall to Liverpool and are opened to the public. HMS Manchester is seen here in Huskinson Dock.

It was a fine day, glorious sunshine as I boarded her but the cold crept in and a sea mist started rolling in from the river. On the dockside it was impossible to see across the dock to the ship on the other side and HMS Manchester seemed to melt into the background in her gray paint finish.

Then the sun came out again but I preferred this image.

The fog is fitting and gives it an interesting depth.

I almost always prefer fog/mist to sunny pics, Les. So, good choice for me! It's like a phantom ship.
Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, I was trying for a ghostly feel to it.
The mist gives a nice atmosphere to this shot Les.
Les Auld: Thanks Bernire, I quite like it myself for a change.

I must say, Les, that this is a very well composed image. I love this mist shrouding this vessel. Great stuff. Regards, chad
Les Auld: Thanks Chris, the mist was well timed, it only lasted about ten minutes but it was cold.

Somehow the grey ship and fog fits in. It has a desaturated look. Excellent capture.
Les Auld: Thanks Louis, the only thing I desaturated was the yellow bollards as they were in the sun. Appreciate the comment.
Marvellous! (:o)
Les Auld: Thanks Rosalyn.

Super photo Les - straight into my likeys. Wonderful.
Les Auld: Glad you like it Mike, thanks for the comment.
I can see why you prefer this shot, there is a stillness about it.
Les Auld: Thanks William, it was a bit strange as the mist rolled in, it went very quite.
Wow, Them, it seems here that you have fotografíado a ghost boat. The effect is frightening!
Les Auld: Thanks Jose, a bit Flying Dutchman like I suppose.
Ghostly grey. Just goes to show that you don't need sunlight and shadows to take good photos.
Les Auld: Thanks Ian, appreciate the comment.
