Captain Noel Chavasse VC & Bar MC

Noel Chavasse is one of the True heroes of World War 1, A captain in the RAMC attached to the Liverpool Scottish.

 

His first VC was for rescuing the wounded at the Battle of the Somme, His second for similar acts at the Battle of Paschendale. Sadly he was mortally wounded and on on this day 100 years ago he died in the field hospital at Brandhock in Ypre, Belgium.

 

The statue is in abercrombie square, Liverpool and the background from an English Heritage event.

The first world war is an epic drama of heroism and stupidity brought about by greed and fear. If there is a Hell then those responsible for WW1 should all be in it
