Flying Scotsman

The Gresley A3 locomotive No 502, Flying Scotsmand in wartime black at Railfest 2012. The engine has been out of service for a long time and has met several serious problems during a protracted, and very expensive, refit. It is still not ready for service having been transferred from Ian Riley's Bury workshops by road to the York National Railway Museum for Railfest 2012. Missing it motion gear it stands silent and forlorn in the NRM yard.

Well let's hope it's back in service soon Les. I always thought the A3s were wonderfully graceful machines
Les Auld: Indeed so Chris, thanks for the comment.
An iconic engine which we all remember from childhood. Great picture Les.
Les Auld: A bit of a checkered recent history though Chad, thanks for the comment.
Sad to see it out of action and hope it will return soon.
Les Auld: I'm not holding my breath though Bill, thanks for the comment.
Sad to see it like this Les,the last time I saw it was in full working order at Steamtown,Carnforth, a good few years ago.A wonderful loco'.
Les Auld: It is all taking too long for the engine to come back into service Frank, thanks for the comment.

It looks too clean to be real, Les...maybe that's why?! smile
Les Auld: Definitely needs a bit of weathering Ginnie, thanks for the comment.
Good to see it actually got to Railfest even if it is still incomplete. This really is a very sorry saga isn't it, and an expensive one!
Les Auld: Probably costing more than a new build Brian, a real catalogue of problems. Thanks for the comment.
