A grade 1 listed building, Astley Hall was built in the 17th century. It is rumoured that Oliver Cromwell stayed at the Hall during the Battle of Preston in the 17th century and reportedly left his boots behind. In 1922 the hall was gifted to the people of Chorley in Lancashire as a memorial to the local soldiers killed in World War 1 and is now maintained as the local museum.
