It's Saturday .....

... It must be the photo charter at Threlkeld quarry in the Lake District

Sir Tom was built by Bagnall of Stafford in 1926 and named after Sir Tom Callender of British Insulated Callender Cables. This 0-4-0 saddletank narrow gauge loco worked at BICC in Kent until 1968. After a long period of disuse it was transferred to Thelkeld Quarry in 2001 and has been fully restored. Seen here on a short train of tip hoppers, also known as tubs, heading into the quarry workings.

I look at this, Les, and can't help but think how cute it is! If it were a toy model and I were a kid, I'd want to put all my little treasures in those tubs. smile
Les Auld: I know just what you mean Ginnie, thanks for the comment.

Charming Les: a lovely image of a quaint little industrial loco. Where do they keep the coal?
Les Auld: On the footplate under foot Chris, thanks for the comment.
These little industrial locos are full of charm
Les Auld: They do have a certain character Bill, thanks for the comment.
This is especially interesting Les as many years ago the ARC Northern quarrying company became part of the ARC (later Hanson) aggregates company I worked for and Threlkeld Quarry came along with it, good to see there is still something going on there.
Les Auld: There has been a lot of hard work put in to bring the museum to life Brian, thanks for the comment.
This is an interesting little loco especially being built near to me at Stafford, I have heard the name Bagnall in this area before.
Les Auld: The company is quite well known in the rail industry Martin, thanks for the comment.
