photoblog image Super D on Shed

Super D on Shed

The last Steam Gala of the year for me, ending on Saturday evening with a night shoot at the East Lancashire Railway. The star of the show was the ex LMS G2 Class heavy freight locomotive, 49395, or as it is commonly known the Super D. Now part of the National Railway Collection, it was restored thanks to Pete Waterman at his LNWR workshop in Crewe.

The weekend before the locvomotive was earning a crust during the North Yorkshire Moors Railway War Weekend.

Well captured, Les. I missed the opportunity to "gate crash" a night shoot on the Durango & Silverton NG Railroad last month; shame, really.

We have a lot to thank Pete Waterman for.
Les Auld: Well Pete does have to make up for some of the dreadful music he has produced. I think Night Shoots are one of my favourite events, I think I would have liked the Durango one. Thanks for the comment.

Super images Les!I saw some of these in service on the Midland region in the 1960s, and if there is only the one in preservation I saw this engine a couple of years ago on the WSR. I think they were the only ex LNWR type to thrive after the 1923 grouping
Les Auld: I saw the last of them in the early sixties, looking very sad and grimey as well. Thanks for the comment.

The top one looks quite mean and powerful in the dark smile
Les Auld: Certainly reeks of power Linda, thanks for the comment.

Very nice Les.
Les Auld: Isn't she just Frank, thanks for the comment.
A great engine and I like the total contrast between the two photos, a very good pairing Les.
