Puffin with Sand Eels

Last Saturday was the Southport Photographic Society's trip to the Farne Islands, Two hours on each of the Inner Farne and Staple Island, along with some 300 plus other people most with cameras. Also about two hours on a small boat, crammed in with sixty plus others. At least the weather did not come up to expectations, the forcast was for bad rain and storms all day but it actually held off untill we were on the way back.

There are over 50,000 breeding pairs of Puffins on the islands and the aim perhaps of every photographer is to get a good sharp picture of one in flight whislt carrying a beak full of Sand Eels. They are fast little birds so this is not as easy as it sounds, I know mine were not all that good but it was a grand experience.

Crikey Les, these are a stunning series of photos and only a 120mm lens. Excellent.
Les Auld: Short end of a 100 - 400mm lens Mike, which became very heavy at the end of the day. Thanks for the comment.
