photoblog image The House of Trousers

The House of Trousers

In Innish on Siel Island in Scotland stands the Tigh na Truish Inn, also known as the House of Trousers. Legend has it that when kilts were proscribed after the Jacobite Rebellion highlanders would change out of their kilts into trousers here before crossing to the mainland. The crossing is now much easier as, in 1792, the Clachan Bridge was built. The bridge is also known as the Bridge over the Atlantic.

The purple flowers that spread across the edge of the bridge in Spring are rare Fairy Foxgloves (Erinus alpinus)

I knew kilts were proscribed but I didn't know of this place or its history Les - fascinating!
Les Auld: Quite Interesting indeed Chris, thanks for the comment.
Donald where's your trousers?
Les Auld: Let the wind blow high and the wind blow low, down the street I will go, all the lassies shout hello ---

Thanks for the comment Bill.
I didn't know about that particular tale Les, but we did go across the bridge many years ago in a coach, he had to go very slowly to avoid grounding the chassis.
Les Auld: I was watching the coaches going very slowly Brian, not of the faint hearted driver. Thanks for the comment.
