photoblog image The Pit Head

The Pit Head

The National Coal Mining Museum is in Yorkshire, at the old Caphouse Colliery. It is an interesting place to visit and offers a tour underground lasting about 1 - 1.30 hours lead by an ex-miner who gives a vivid description of life underground. Unfortunately you cannot take cameras, or anything wth a battery in it, underground so the pictures only remain in the mind.

This is the Pit Head winding building from which you descend about 140 metres into the upper workings of the mine.
