Great Things to do in Quorn

  1. Eat a burger-ina-bun after squirting the tomato sauce all over your coat.
  2. Meet up with Brian and have a convivial conversation.
  3. Freeze in the cold.
  4. Take photographs of great steam trains.

The Great Central Railway held it's Winter Steam Gala over the last weekend with an intensive train service throughout the day. Here ex GWR Hall Class 4953, Pitchford Hall, is double headed with ex LNER K4 Class 61994, The Great Marquess, on the mid-morning train out of Quorn. The sound of these two engines was just great as they passed the signal box. The net in the left hand corner is the mail bag catcher used in the Travelling post Offcie runs.

In spite of everything (tomato sauce, not Brian) I think you had a good day Les. I bet in BR days you'd never have seen this combination anywhere!
Les Auld: It was a good day out Chris, the idea of the gala was to present Banbury during BR days when all four regions could be seen there at one time or another. Thanks for the comment.
Its been a long time since I caught a whiff of that smoke..Nice one Les.
Les Auld: The smell and the sound of steam, just great Ron, thanks for the comment.

Les Auld: Thanks for the comment Vintage, appreciate it.
Great shot Les, I was on the platform taking close-ups of this pair at the time, I think you got the better deal this time.
Les Auld: The TPO compound is one of the best places on the railway for capturing the locos working at their best Brian, thanks for the comment.
I recall the Great Marquess was on duty when we met up at Kidderminster! Glad you had a good day with Brian
Les Auld: Yes it was there Bill, thanks for the comment.
