photoblog image The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express

The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express

Passing Brock Crossing, just north of Preston, on the West Coast Mainline, Stanier Black 5, 44871, and Jubilee Class 5690, Leander double-head the train towards Carlisle.

The wreath & Jacobite headboard are in memory of Paul Kane, a West Coast Rail fireman who died on the footplate a fortnight ago at Stevenage. The reason for the Jacobite headboard was that he fired on many a occasion in the Highlands especially on the Jacobite train that runs on the Fort William-Mallaig line.

The weather was deteriorating and the light was quite poor so not a good picture but a record of an occasion none the less.

This image is perhaps symbolic of 2010 rushing out in a bit of a blur while 2011 eagerly pushes itself in upon us, Les! HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Les Auld: An interesting thought Ginnie, may 2011 be all you would wish for.

Fascinating but sad to hear about Paul, what a way to go.
Another good Engine shot it's not all about bright sunny days
Les.
Les Auld: True you don't always need the sun Martin, thanks for the comment.
A grand tribute. The slight lack of sharpness is made up for with the great smoke and feeling of speed
Les Auld: Thanks Bill smile
Good shot despite the conditions but how sad about the fireman you mention.

Les Auld: And may you have a good 2011 Marion.
