A Pair of Fives

Last weekend was the East Lancashire Railway Autumn Steam Gala with a nighshoot on shed in the evening. Ex BR Standard Five 73129 stands alongside it's predecessor Stanier Black Five 45337 in the yard at Buckley Wells, Bury. The fireman is emptying out the last of the fire from 73129 prior to shutting it down completely.

Earlier in the day the two engines double headed the mid-day Bury to Rawtenstall train, stopping at Irwell Vale.

Very nice Les: the Standard was just a refinement of the Black 5 of course.

Take a look at this - filmed yesterday at our local railway bridge
