photoblog image The Waverley

The Waverley

Sunday dawned wet and grey, so off to Hellifield and the Settle and Carlisle line to photograph the Scots Guardsman on the Waverley Steam Special. Unfortunately there was a problem with the engine and Stanier 8F 48151, now named Gauge O Guild, was substituted.

Seen here approaching Selside after leaving Horton in Ribblesdale, working hard with a thirteen coach load, on its way to the Ribblehead viaduct, below.

Are you in some deep ditch? Great angle for the shot.

A great couple of images Les: these were fine & reliable workhorses
Les Auld: They were indeed Chris, fine engines indeed. Thanks for the comment.
Fine shot Les. We had a trip on the Settle to Carlisle a few years back. It passes through some beautiful countryside
Les Auld: And some empty countryside as well Bill, thanks for the comment.

I'm really learning to love these trains, Les, especially through your eyes. smile
Les Auld: Thanks you kindly Ginnie, appreciate the comment.
Good feeling of speed Les with the smoke streaming back as it is. I like the viaduct shot, a very good angle.
Les Auld: It looked pretty good all along the line Brian, thanks for the comment.

It's an unfulfilled ambition to photograph a steam loco crossing the viaduct. What a wway t otravel through the glorious countryside.

I'll swap your grrey and wet with the heat and humidity we have here any day! sad
Les Auld: I think I'll stay here Alan, two more steam trains tomorrow. Thanks for the comment.
