photoblog image Leaving Grosmont

Leaving Grosmont

Last weekends Steam Gala was on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, running between Pickering and Grosmont just south of Whitby. Not quite as good as expected as several engines had to be pulled for various failures but good non the less.

Ex Great Northern N2 tank 1744, leaking steam and smoke everywhere, double heads the train out of Grosmont, behind the steam in the Southern Regions School's Class 30926, Repton.

Lots of atmosphere here Les. I think these tank locomotives used to work surburban services out of Kings Cross
Les Auld: They did Chris, the destination board on the smoke box was unique I think. Thanks for the comment.
You've been getting about chasing trains Les. Worth it for shots like this
Les Auld: I have indeed bill, and again tomorrow at Didcot. Thanks for the comment.

Great shot Les
Les Auld: Thanks you Zed smile
Good shot Les, as is the rest of the set on your Flickr. When I moved here in 1989 there were two locos I wanted to see, the B1 and this N2, both were regular types I saw in my spotting days on the LNER out of the Cross.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, I never saw either in my spotting days, so it is a bonus now.

Very nice atmosphere. Looks like a nice Gala!
Les Auld: It was a good Gala Marion, but a pity that not all engines were available. Thanks for the comment.
He looks like he means business, great capture Lessmile
Les Auld: Certainly working hard Linda, thanks for the comment.

Not the best example of energy efficiency Les, but makes an atmospheric photo!
Les Auld: And the atmosphere was strong Mike, thanks for the comment.
