Black Five at Llangollen

Sunday's Steam gala was the Corwen/Patriot Gala at the Llangollen railway.

Stanier Black Five 44806 leaves Llangollen station bound for  Carog. 44806 originally worked the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway way back in 1972 and she was adopted by the children's TV programme Magpie, carrying that name for a while. From the mid seventies she was stored at Southport Steamport until the site was closed down. Eventually in 1995 she returned to steam on the Llangollen Railway, her home for so many years.

In 2005 44806 was named Kenneth Aldcroft in honour of the man who owned her for over 36 years, ten years more than her original owners, British Rail.

A superb capture. I like how it's puffing and the curve of the rails.
Les Auld: Thanks Sherri, appreciate the comment.

There she blows. 'Her' name is Kenneth Aldcroft. Someone is going to end up with an identity crisis smile
Les Auld: Somehow steam engines always seem to require the feminine honorific Louis, thanks for the comment.
A great shot Les..and good processing.
Les Auld: Thanks Ron smile
One of those timeless shots Les being in Mono. I have been to the LLangollen 3 times, it is a delightful railway.
