Tornado coming off shed

I was down on the Great Central Railway on Sunday for the 1960s Gala, the main reason being to see this fine machine, the new build Peppercorn A1 60163. Seen here coming off shed ready for a days hard work up and down the line. A magnificent sight and a distinctive sound. Well worth the 250 mile round trip.

Behind Tornado is Stanier Black 5, 44767, resting after a hard day on the Saturday gala specials.

I haven't seen her yet, it was a great achievement getting her built
Les Auld: And one that has caught the public's eye as well Bill, where ever she appears the crowds follow. Thanks for the comment.

I have a feeling I could get a great education by spending a day with you here, Les!
Les Auld: Thanks for the compliment Ginnie, I feel I know a little about a lot, so it could be quite shallow.

Lovely Les - and what is a mere 250 miles when you can see such a wonderful machine...
Les Auld: A short step indeed Chris, and worth every mile indeed, thanks for the comment.
That's a beauty Les. I love the steam under the bridge
Les Auld: It does help the picture, thanks for the comment Pamela.
Love that smoke/steam billowing out under the bridge..Grand shot Les.
Les Auld: Had to wait a few minutes for the right moment but it seems to work Ron. Thanks for the comment.
The steam looks great under the bridge!
Les Auld: It does add to the atmosphere Linda, thanks for the comment.
Isn't she a fine machine Les, well worth your long journey. The Black 5 did indeed have a busy day on the Saturday.
Les Auld: She is fine indeed Brian, 45231 took over from 44767 on the Sunday, a great day out, thanks for the comment.
nice one Les.
Les Auld: Nice subject Mike, thanks for the comment.
very cool shot, Les. I like framing here.
Les Auld: Thanks Charles, appreciate the comment.
Ah, the old bridge shot, always good for some dramatic smoke and steam! A reward for your dedication Les!
Les Auld: Strangely enough many of the photographers there ignored this shot, one of my favourite though. Thanks for the comment.

I feel somehow that I'm missing out by not knowing anything about these beautiful machines!
Ingrid
Les Auld: Not everyone can be an anorak Ingrid, but they are rather grand. Thanks for the comment.
