Samba Santas

As I approached the pier Head on Sunday from the other side of Princes Dock The sound grew and grew untill I reached the front of the Cunard Building. There were Thirty Plus drummers from the Batala Banda De Percussao Drums dressed in red Santa Suits drumming their way through crowds of Red and Blue Santas, all trying to take pictures and then get out of the way. Quite a surreal sight really.

The sound of the drums was very hypnotic, stirring and also so loud you could not hear your shutter fire. Definitely one of the more memorable events at the Santa Dash.

Batala Liverpool is a Brazilian-style percussion band which has its musical and historical roots in Brazil and  is one of several around the world. The Liverpool Batala has performed in many places, including the New Wembley Stadium, the Notting Hill Carnival and Cardiff. The video below gives a fine flavour of the music and style of the Batala.

Wonderful
Les Auld: Indeed!
A really colourful shot of folk enjoying themselves. Nice one Les.
Les Auld: Enjoying themselves very much Ron, there was a great feeling in the air. Thanks for the comment.
I bet you could hear them coming from miles away les, what a great sound, and also a great picture.
Les Auld: The sound was all over the pier Head Brian, a great sond and a grand scene as well. Thanks for the comment.
Great title it goes with the picture and video. Really enjoyed the video and if this is similar to on the Santa dash, then I think a few feet were tapping along with them. Nice shot as well.
Les Auld: Thanks for the comment Linda, the crowds were indeed swaying along to the drumming.

All the players in red make a great picture. I just couldn't help to notice that in both the video and the photo, that the female drummers seem uncomfortable.
Les Auld: I suspect just the efort required to perform Louis, thanks for the comment.
