Anyone for shopping in Chester

It was a grey morning as the ex Great Western Hall Class locomotive 4965, Rood Aston Hall, hauled a steam special from Tysely, Birmingham, to Chester for a day of Christmas shopping in the  historic town. Seen here approaching the station in Chester.

I used to go to Chester trainspotting in the early 1960s. Then the platforms were packed with boys, this was before teenagers were really invented, eagerly awaiting the next GWR engine to come from the south, there were Counties, Halls and the odd Castle. Today there a fair fewer number of enthusiasts, all strangely about the same age as me and, for the most part carrying cameras, waiting for the rare sight of a steam engine on the main line.

A great shot Les...have you ever been approached for a publication of your steam loco pictures.
Les Auld: No Ron, there are far better railway photographers out there who submit to magazines. Thanks for the comment.
Wow, you have captured this at its best, Excellent.
Les Auld: The best in poor light Linda, thanks for the comment.
Memories of great times Les, somehow though it doesn't look quite right with Mark 2 caoches does it.
Les Auld: The train was advertised as a Pullman and there were a couple of real Pullman coaches, the rest were painted Brown and Cream but still did not look so good. Thanks for the comment.

Caught beautifully on the arc Les,magic m8
Les Auld: Thanks Graham, the light was quite bad so Black and White made the best out of the picture.

Now I'm posting a image tomorrow of a steam special coming through Southampton. Yours is much, much though - despite it being Great Western! This has a timeless feel to it with little to give a modern date to it. Two Hal class locos I've yet to see are "B*gger Hall" and "Entrance Hall" smile
Les Auld: That's Chester for you, old fashioned. Never caught Entrance Hall but I've seen B*gger Hall most times I visit some Steam railways. Look forward to seeing you steam special Alan, thanks for the comment.
