British Musical Fireworks Championship 2009

The Championship is held every year in Southport over three days, Friday to Sunday. This year there were two displays on Friday, three on Saturday and two more on Sunday, at least that was what was supposed to happen. Sunday evening was a fine-ish evening but with very high windows so the displays were cancelled on Health and Safety grounds.

So these pictures are from the Saturday event, a bit of rain and low cloud otherwise not too bad an evening. The fireworks are set off in Kings Gardens and the general public is allowed to watch them, after paying an entry fee, from the other side of the Marine Lake, good for reflection shots though. many more people stand around the periphery and watch without paying as well.

An amazing contribution Les - bet it was noisy!
Les Auld: Fine music, ranging from Michael Jackson's Thriller to the William Tell Overture as well as bangs and rushes, it was a grand display. Thanks for the comment.

Another great collage by Les.

I wonder - did you use the 3 secs shutter speed with all the fireworks pictures?
Les Auld: Thanks Louis, over the evening I tried several different combinations of speed and focal length, all with slightly different results but for such a display as this 2-3 seconds at f5.6 seems about right.

Superb collage Les, l cant get one descent firework shot and you put 5 in one image smile
Les Auld: After some years of practice I have found the best way is to take four hundred pictures and you may be lucky to get twenty reasonable ones out of them. Thanks for the comment Zed.
