Early Morning at Embsay...

... and the morning mist was swirling around the station buildings giving a soft and noisy effect to the light,  just before the sun rose over the Dale and burnt it off.

Another essential part of any Heritage Railway is stacks of cases suitable for the period. these three are standing on a porter's barrow, not something you would see these days at our modern, efficient stations. The poster in the background is extolling the virtues of visiting Bristol.

I remember a brown case just like the one in the middle, we had it when I was but a small lad. It stood on the top of the wardrobe and in the weeks before Christmas it became a magical store for Christmas presents, only we were not supposed to know that. I have memories of secretly searching the case and seeing what I was going to get, the one thing that sticks in my mind is the plastic kit of HMS Cossack made by Airfix. Those were the days, as recollection improves and memories fade.

Nice period picture Les, you were a naughty boy with the brown suitcase though, did your parnets ever find out your little secret?
Les Auld: I suspect they did Brian but never let on, thanks for the comment.

My Brother was the one who would find where presents were hidden as I recall and i'm sure we had a case like this in the loft at home when I was a kid...nostalgia ain't what it used to be Lesgrin
Les Auld: How true Bill, I wonder if todays children will feel the same about things when they get older. Thanks for the comment.

The mist works well for this stack of cases. And you required the porter's trolly because they were unwieldy - no handles and large.
Les Auld: Thanks Louis, appreciate the comment.
