photoblog image U534 Interior

U534 Interior

The interior of U534 has been left virtually in the state that it was when lifted from the sea back in 1993 with rust and debris everywhere. the boat had been filled with water whilst on the bottom so causing plenty of damage.

This view shows the forward crew quarters with the torpedo room beyond the bulkhead. 12 to 16 senior ratings would bunk down in here whilst a further 26 junior ratings would live in the torpedo room itself along with six 23 foot long torpedoes and plenty of stores and equipment. Certainly not for the faint hearted.

A slideshow of some further images may be found here on my Flickr site.

Enjoyed the slide show Les, don't think l would have the nerve to sail in submarine
Les Auld: Takes a particular nerve for it Zed, thanks for the comment.
Good shot Les, nothing would get me down in a submarine!
Les Auld: Certainly not as it dived Bill, thanks for the comment.
Good picture and slide show Les, I wouldn't go down in one of these for a £1,000,000, well perhaps I might!
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, I once went around a Falklands War submarine and it was as small and crowded inside as this.

It looks wasted. Will take more than a weekend to fix.
Les Auld: And more than a visit to the local DIY shop, thanks for the comment Louis.

Not the life for me, Les. I'm glad that others will doe this, though, so I can sleep easily in my bed.
Les Auld: I once had to design some computing equipment to fit in a submarine, that brought it home to me just how small hey are inside. Thanks for the comment.
