photoblog image The Red Squirrel Reserve

The Red Squirrel Reserve

The Formby Pine Forest is home to some of the last surviving red squirrels in England, I went to try and photograph some the other night and if you look closely you will see there are non to be seen, perhaps next time.

The area is owned by the National Trust and the pine trees planted at the turn of the last century are beginning to stabilise the area. Behind the trees and the sand dunes are several dumps of nicotine waste, brought here from tobacco companies on Merseyside between 1956 and 1976.
