photoblog image The Coal Miner

The Coal Miner

Whilst trying to find the Dream I came across this sculpture on a traffic island in St. Helens. Once a proud coal mining area, the mines are now all closed and I think this relates back to Victorian England and the hardships to be found in the mines back then. The miner wields his pick whilst his wife and child pick up lumps of coal. Hard times indeed.
