Welcome to PleasureLand

From around 1903 fairground rides and adventure rides were set around the marine lake in Southport. After the Great War Pleasureland was created to bring it all together and for over eighty years it provided a place of entertainment and fun for visitors to the town.

Then a few years ago the then current owners, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, decided to charge for entry, so perhaps precipitating its eventual closure as a loss making concern. The cynical amongst us could think that this was the intent all along so tha the big rides could be plundered and re-used in Blackpool.  Other rides were destroyed as well and the grounds left in a derelict state.

The area has now been sold to Urban Splash for re-development bu we are not sure just what we will end up with in the current climate. Meanwhile a local man has been running the rump of the fair that has been left for the last year, and hopefully for next year as well.

This short series will show both the old and the ruined.
