To Remember...

..... those who died in Road Traffic Accidents, erected by the RoadPeace charity in 2006. The memorial stands in a corner of St. John's Gardens amongst the Victorian Statues of the Great and the Good, and is none the less poignant for it.

In 2007 2946 people were killed on British roads and 27,774 were seriously injured. By far and away too many.

The children s toys really highlight the tragedy of road accidents
Les Auld: They do so Zed, thanks for the comment.
And all too many of these so called accidents are caused by excess speed, at the wrong time in the wrong place and the wrong conditions. And I would publicly flog the idiots on mobile phones whilst they are driving.
This is a powerful and poignant reminder of the way an idiot in a lethal weapon can ruin lives.
Les Auld: Couldn't agree more Bill, especially about mobile phones, thanks for the comment.
Well said Bill. We want a few more memorials like this..scattered around the country. Well recorded Les.
Les Auld: Thanks Ron :-}
agree.
a good reminder.
300 died here in the first three days of 2009...
unbelievable!

cheers
Rob
Les Auld: The figures are just frightening Rob, thanks for the comment.
A strong image to remind us of the reality Les!
Les Auld: Thanks Richard, although I would wish for a different reality.
Ditto Bills remarks Les, a sad memorial to which too many families could subscribe.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, bill said it all really.

Well, I'd never would even considered that there would be a memorial to these tragic events. The bear is very poignant. Let;s hope that the some of the billions of pounds paid by the UK motorists will be used to improve the state of our roads.
Les Auld: One can hope but possibly in vain Alan, thanks for the comment.
It's a nice tribute and warning...
Les Auld: So it is Zeb, thanks for the comment.
