photoblog image The Pier at Llandudno

The Pier at Llandudno

The Llandudno Pier Company commissioned the current pier from a Glasgow company in 1877. Built using cast iron it was opened in 1884 and a landing stage added in 1891. Steamships from the Liverpool and North Wales Steamship Company provided the pople of Liverpool with excursions to North wales almost every day. I have a vague memory of travelling on the steamship St. Tudno in the late 1950s for a day out in Llandudno.

The decline of the company started in the 1950s as the excursions became lass popular and finished altogether in 1963.

The Steamship berth was rebuilt in 1969 to allow the Isle of Man Steamship Company to call at Llandudno, but not on a regular basis.
