Wayfarers Arcade

Wayfarers Arcade, off Lord Street in Southport, is a Grade II listed building and is one of the finest stained glass arcades in the country, with an impressive Victorian glass domed and vaulted roof. There are about thirty shops in the arcade It is also home to a statue of the famous racehorse Red Rum, who was stabled at nearby Birkdale.

I love these old arcades. I grew up in Cardiff and I remember it being full of them, but this is a very fine example. The light coming in through the glass roof makes it feel very airy.

Les Auld: It is a grand bit of Victorian architecture Ingrid, thanks for the comment.
These Victorian arcades are wonderful and this is a cracker. The ones in Leeds are rather magnificent too
Les Auld: There is one in Birmingham as well Bill, but ni=ot so old. Thanks for the comment.
I like very much !!
Les Auld: I am glad you do Zeb, thanks for the comment.
This is excellent Les, a great shot of a wonderful piece of historic architecture.

Oh wow.. that is impressive, Les; far more character than the souless shopping malls built these days. I bet that there's no Starbucks there!
Les Auld: Very true Alan, a couple of tea shops but certainly no modern coffee outlet.
Very nice shopping center. Looks like a great place to visit, even if you don't buy anything. Or when it is raining.
Les Auld: You can have a pleasant stroll and a cup of coffee Paul, thanks for the comment.

Incredible bit of light juggling in this interior, is this one of these HDR combinations of different exposures Les?
Les Auld: HDR from 5 exposures generated from a single RAW file Mike, and then processed in photoshop, eventually got there. Thanks for the comment.
