photoblog image The Royal Liver Building

The Royal Liver Building

You can just imaging just how rich the Insurance Company was to have built  such a grand and imposing building.

Located opposite the Tower Building on the Strand at the Pier Head in Liverpool, it was one of the first reinforced concrete buildings in the world, and certainly the first in Britain. Built with a cast concrete frame it is clad in a grey-black granite.

It is actuially built over one of Liverpool's early docks, St. George's Dock, and is pehaps one of my favourite buildings to photograph.

It really is a magnificent structure, Les. I can see why it's one of your favorites. I like the time of day that you've captured it!
Les Auld: It does act like a magnet, there are so many views of it you can find, there will be more posted in the future I am sure. Thanks for the comment Ginnie

Can I deduce from the previous picture and this one that you have some conversion technique that enhances the colour of the night shots? It looks very good.
Les Auld: Just a bit of processing in photoshop Louis, getting to be a bit routine now. Thanks for the comment.

A fine image, too, Les. It's an iconic building in Liverpool ad I can remember it featuring in the opening credits of the Liver Birds long before I ever went there. Is there still a Thistle hotel, perhaps just behind whjere you are stood? I seem to recall staying there for a night years ago.
Les Auld: The Atlantic Tower Thistle otel is still there Alan, see http://www.flickr.com/photos/lsauld/3090243944/ taken at the same time as this one. Thanks for the comment.
Very grand building Les. Looks very impressive in that lighting and those colours.
Les Auld: It is grand indeed, thanks for the comment.
When one goes to the Landing Stages you don't really realise what a magnificent building this really is Les.
Les Auld: You have to take a step back to see it Brian, thanks for the comment.
from what i see and read Les, they might just not be rich for much longer.

Glorious shot Lessmile
Les Auld: Could well be Tim, thanks for the comment.
I can see why it is your favorite building to capture. Very well done. Did you use perspective correction?
Les Auld: A touch of free transform in photoshop for the verticals Paul, thanks for the comment.
