GCR Class O4 63601


Seen at Doncaster the O4 was a heavy freight locomotive designed for the Great Central Railway in 1911. 70 were built at Gorton Locomotive Works and the design was adopted by the Military Railway Operating Department, 521 being built for service in WW1, mostly abroad.

63601 was withdrawn from service in 1963 and finally restored to service in January 2000.

It is smoking as if going somewhere. If it is restored to service, does it still work a line or is it for enthusiast type events?
Les Auld: It runs on a heritage line, I think the Great Central Louis. Thanks for the comment.
I was going to put a picture of this same loco on SC shortly Bill, I will refrain until at least the new year. In the meanwhile once again the reflections add to this picture as they did with the Stirling Single.
