Stirling Single No. 1

53 of these 2-2-2 wheel Locomotives, designed by Patrick Stirling, were built by the Great Northern Railway between 1879 and 1895. During the latter half of the 19th Century they worked some of the world's fastest trains between London and York. Only one now remains in the National Railway Museum collection at York. It is seen here at Doncaster Works after the rain.

It's so incredibly clean and shiny, it looks almost new.

An excellent picture of this old character.
Les Auld: He was just standing there, I had a camera in my hand, it all came together, thanks for the comment Louis.
Great shot Les, the wet conditions mean you have also got all those interesting reflections below the loco.
Les Auld: Something had to make up for standing in the rain holding an uberella over the camera, thanks for the comment Brian.
