Morayshire

LNER Class D49 number 246 is named Morayshire, seen here without it's nameplates at the Doncaster Works 150th Anniversary Open Weekend on the 25th July 2003. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley as intermediate express locomotives, the D49s were built between 1927 and 1935. They were the last 4-4-0 design to be built for the LNEr, I think they were made in Darlington.

The storm had passed and the thin watery sun was low in the sky, the light catching on the wet ground and illuminating the engine against the rain filled sky.

Gresley built some very handsome engines and this picture does him justice.

Oooer!! A cracker by now doubt. I love how the loco stands out against the grey sky and how the sun has emphasised its fine colours. The smoke from the one on the left s a bonus.
Les Auld: Thanks Alan, glad you like it.
