photoblog image The Kent at Arnside

The Kent at Arnside

Arnside is at the head of Morecambe Bay in Lancashire where the River Kent flows into the bay. The viaduct in the background carries the railway line to Barrow and the Cumbrian coast. Arnside is one of the startig pont for the guided walks across Morecambe Bay when the tide is low. As the tide flows in it becomes an area of treacherous quick sands and tidal races. In the background are the hills of the Lake District.

I like this very much, Les. The boat provides good foreground interest and there are tantalsing glimpses of the Cumbrian hills beyond the viaduct. I've been on a train across that viaduct; my one and only ever railtour. It was overnight from Euston to Ravenglass, breakfast in a pub, a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdsale Railway then back to Euston. Seems like fun at the time!
Les Auld: I'll bet you enoyed the trip though, thanks for the comment Alan.
Nicely composed Les.

Godd use of the boat in thje foreground Les, and overall a nicely composed picture. Oh to see a steam hauled train crossing the viaduct as well, the icing on the cake.
Les Auld: The steam used across here tends to be a Stanier 8f, never managed to catch it though.
