All smoke and steam

Ex London Midland Scottish Railway Jinty no 47279 heads a loaded train out of Keighley station on the Keighley and Worth Valley railway. Hidden away in all the smoke is a second engine, BR Standard Tank 80002. The gradient out of the station is quite steep so the engines generally get up a good head of steam, on this day there was a heavy fog that was just lifting so adding to the effect. The crew are just about to collect the single line token that would allow the train to go onto the next station.

Awesome process...
Les Auld: Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.
Captures the essence, I can smell the oil from here! Tokens remind me of journeys from Carlisle to Stranraer when I was a kid.
Les Auld: Thanks Alistair, it reminds me of smokey days bunking the sheds around Liverpool.

I was waiting for some new train shot, since I discovered your blog. This one is wonderful, both for the technical side and the subject you chose.
Les Auld: Pleased to provide them Paolo, thanks for the comment.
One of your best train shots Les, I still like the earlier ELR ones, but this is also very atmospheric and gains, IMHO, in depicting the token handover which introduces some human interest.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, I agree about the human interest, gives it a bit more of a story.
This is a great train picture Les
Les Auld: Thanks Bill, appreciate the comment.

That token pick up is the same way they distributed mail accross SA in the olden days, to and from the small towns along the track.

Great processing on the picture.
Les Auld: I have seen pictures of that in some old books, thanks for the comment Louis.
