photoblog image The Royal Insurance Building

The Royal Insurance Building

In North John Street, one of Liverpool's grand Victorian buildings. Started in 1897 and finished in 1903, not for the late Victorians a boring and bland building, so often seen in modern architecture. Here we have grand design wih a guilded dome atop a tower full of features, ornate carvings along the sides, corner towers with carved finials and the final touch a golden sundial.

I love your PP...lovely shot. What did you do with this picture?
Les Auld: Thanks Ada, I used a photoshop plug-in, Topaz Adjust, and then desaturated a copy lay by 50%, if that makes sense. Thanks for the comment.
Les this is superb, what ever you did to it keep doing it.
Les Auld: Thanks for the compliment Michael, the photshop plug-in Topaz Adjust helped, together with a bit more processing.

Les Auld: It did occur to me you may have liked it Ginnie, thanks for the comment.
Very strong shot Les, especially against that plain sky. I love the tilt, which a judge wouldn't of course.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, I am tempted to put it into a competition just to see.
Wonderful Victorian building and a superb treatment.
Les Auld: Thanks Bill, the light was just right for a change.

I think the abgle is a bit off, it makes the inmage unbalanced!
Les Auld: I deliberately gave it a bit of angle to provide an edge to the picture, thanks for the comment.
