Canning Half Tide Dock

Two weeks ago the Canning Half Tide Dock was full with the Clipper Racing Yachts after their gruelling 35,000 mile round the world race. They have now left and their place has been taken by the Tall Ships, in Liverpool this weekend for the start of the 2008 Tall Ships race. The docks are full of sailing ships of all kinds from around the world, Royal Navy support vessels and a myriad of other boats, all here to celebrate these fine vessels. many thousands of visiters have already been to see them and many thousands more are expected on Monday to line the banks of the River Mersey as the ships parade down the river to the start line for their race to Norway and then onto Den Helder in the the Netherlands.

More details on the event can be found here.

I like how the warm light contrasts with the blue water.
Les Auld: Evening light Martin, thanks for the comment.
Beautiful ships indeed. But I have to ask, what's with the crazy building in the background? Or have I had a drop too much Chardonnay?
Les Auld: No Pat the building is part of the new Liverpool, One Park West. anither view can be seen here http://www.les.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Almost_Finished_/

It has grown on me as it has been built, certainly can be photographed in different ways.

Thanks for the comment.

Great picture of the old and new boat ship styles. That building at the back somehow reminds of a ship and does draw the attention.
Les Auld: So I guess the architects have made their point with the building Louis, thanks for the comment.
Wonderfully crisp and clear, as ever, with so much detail to enjoy. (:o)
Les Auld: Thanks Rosalyn, glad you like it.
Nice shot Les. We took a trip to your neck of the woods to visit the Tall Ships on Sunday so expect some photos of them and Liverpool over the coming days.
Les Auld: Hope you enjoyed your trip Bernie, look forward to your take on the city. Thanks for the comment.
