The time of year...

... when the gardeners are out tidying up Southport, the hanging baskets are all along Lord Street and the traffic islands all have new floral displays on them. Yes it is time for the judging of the Britain in Bloom competition. Towns and villages the length of the country are waiting with baited breath as the judges traverse this island and award the prizes for this year.

The competition is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society and started in 1963, in all those years Southport has won it once.

This picture shows the hanging baskets and window boxes outside the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street.

A real big eye full of colour,I like it.
Les Auld: Thanks Vintage, Southport is quite proud of it's floral displays.
A veritable `riot` of colour. (:o)
Les Auld: Thanks Rosalyn, appreciate the comemnt.
I know the feeling Les: we go through this every year in Bath
Les Auld: Thanks Chris, although I believe that Bath has been successful more times than Southport.

it's clearly a fake shot taken probably in Italy or Spain, given the blue sky and the sunny weather :-D

p.s. nice colours, from flowers to flags
Les Auld: I wish Paolo, thanks for the comment.
I love the riot of different colours against that blue sky Les, I can't remember when we last had a sky that colour in Leicestershire.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, we tend to get bright blue skies quite often here.
