photoblog image The Pier at Fleetwood

The Pier at Fleetwood

Not one of the largest, or one of the most well known but a pier non the less. It seems to have a bit of a chequered history. It was opened in 1910, plans to lengthen it were eventually abandoned, then in 1952 there was a fire that left it a tangled mass of iron. Rebuilt it was re-opened in 1953. After a facelift in 1972 it was closed in 2000. New oweners were found and it was then re-opened again in 2003.

The pier has been closed for some time. A local comedian (seriously) has submitted plans to build luxury apartments on it.

The colour seems appropriate Les.
Les Auld: Would apartments be really suitable there? Thanks for the comment Alistair.
Certainly a story to tell with this pier Les, I hope it doesn't go the way of places like Hunstanton where the pier fell into disrepair and was finally dismantled.
Les Auld: The underlying structure looks fairly solid Brian, maybe someone will develop it further. Thanks for the comment.
Nice composition, and I just love those muted tones. (:o)
Les Auld: Thanks Rosalyn, I did think that a partially desaturated image would suit the subject.

That is some significant history for a pier, Les! More facelifts than you can shake a stick at!
Les Auld: A right story of ups and downs indeed Ginnie, thanks for the comment.
