photoblog image The Old Municipal Buildings.....

The Old Municipal Buildings.....

... on Dale Street in Liverpool. A large Victorian building constucted between 1860 and 1866.

The head of the School of Architecture in Liverpool once described the tower as:

The lower part of the tower is very fine, the spire is merely humerous. It has a wrought iron balcony half way down, like a skirt popped over the head (if that is ever done) and not allowed to settle in its proper place.

I'm not sure I would call it "humerous," Les. I'd call it FABULOUS. You have given it a wonderfully aged appeal.
Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, there is some great detail on the building.

When I think about it, I'm inclined to agree with the description of hte tower, it does seem slightly overelaborate.
Les Auld: In keeping with the ornateness of the rest of the building, thanks for the comment Ellie.
Nice shot Les, suitably aged and I love the English flag standing out in colour.
Les Auld: Thanks Brian, glad you like it.

I like your textured treatment Les. And the spot of colour works really well.

Les Auld: Thanks Ingrid, glad you like it.
The spire does have the look of an afterthought. Super picture of a grand bit of Victorian!
Les Auld: Thanks Bill, we can thank the Victorians for producing such buildings for us to photograph.

Les Auld: Thanks Zeb.
