photoblog image The Tiger

The Tiger

The old National Provincial bank on Water Street in Liverpool has a great pair of Bronze doors, each with a splendid Tiger's Head boss on them. Legend has it that Malay seamen passing through Liverpool would go to rub the head for luck. The building now stands empty.

I would rub that head for luck, too, Les, in hopes I didn't get my own bitten off! smile What a perfect tribute and perspective of this Tiger's head!
Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, I just had to touch it as well, appreciate the comment.

Great picture. What I find interesting is ivory uppers and green lowers.
Les Auld: Never noticed the different colours Louis, amazing what others see. Thanks for the comment.

What will they do with the building, any idea?

It's a magnificent piece of art work, well worth preserving, he even looks a friendly sort of tiger, even though his mouth is wide open like this.
Les Auld: No idea Ellie, the doors though are in good condition so hopefully someone is looking after them.
I hope these don't get lost in some "redevelopment"
Les Auld: Couldn't agree more Bill, thanks for the comment.
Good find and capture Les, one could walk past this without really noticing the quality of workmanship put into it.
Les Auld: Probably many people do Brian, thanks for the comment.
