photoblog image Across Canning Dock...

Across Canning Dock...

.... May be seen the key buildings of Liverpool's Pier Head. The Liver Building, the Cunard Building, the Port Authority Building and Georges Dock Building. The cranes on the left hand side are where the new Mann Island buildings will grow up during the year.  In the dock are the Bar Lightship and Fitzcarraldo, a Theatre ship that is owned by the "Walk the Plank" theatre company.

A bit grainy and not too clear ( rested on a bollard at the edge of the dock but still had a little shake) but I quite like it. Must go back with a tripod though.

It is a little grainy, but I agree with you - still a nice picture. The reflections are very attractive elements in the composition.
Les Auld: Thanks Jewlya, the reflections did attract me to it in the first place.

With the graininess, Les, this actually looks more like a painting. What a view!
Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, I agree there is something about it.

Very nice and I agree with Ginnie, it looks like a painting. Love the reflection of the lights
Les Auld: Thanks Aussie, not a patch on your recent series though.

Go back with that tripod - I believe it will be excellent. And while you are there take pictures for an HDR exercise as well.

Problem is that the ships aiding compositin may be gone.
Les Auld: Been looking at a new tripod, just need to rustle up the cash, thanks for the comment Louis The ships will be there for a while yet.
Makes me want to visit. Haven't been to Liverpool for quite a long time. Love the orange ship.
Les Auld: The Bar Lightship, a great little vessel, about time you came over then Ian, thanks for the comment.

I love the reflections in water and the colours !!!
Les Auld: Thanks Ann, glad you like it.
I like it very much and agree with comments about it having a `painterly` effect. Love the colour and the reflected light. (:o)
Les Auld: Thanks Rosalyn, I am getting to like it better as I read the comments.
Superb view Les. I like the lighting and the reflections. The grain makes it looking like a paint. Fine shot
Les Auld: Thanks Richard, this view will disappear in the coming year as they finish the new build across the dock.
OK it is a little grainy and not perfectly sharp, but this gives it something of the quality of a painting.
Les Auld: It does have an air about it Bill, thanks for the comment.

I like it too.

It's when I see pictures like this that I try to imagine what the scene would have been when there were more ships.
Les Auld: I have vague memories of the docks in the fifties Ellie, it would be great to see them active again.

super scene Les, got to say is it meant to be grainy? great photo never the lesssmile
Les Auld: The grain was a by product Tim, high ISO, low light a sure recipe for grain. Thanks for the comment.
