Good old Thomas

The Reverend W A Awdry has a lot to account for after his creation of Thomas and Friends who lived on the Island of Sodor all those years ago. Apparently the stories were based on stories Awdry told to entertain his son Christopher during his recovery from measles.

Heritage railways all over the country now stage Thomas events throughout theyear, and bring in quite a bit of money too. Purists hold these events in a bit of distain but without them I am sure many railways would be in difficulty.

This particular Thomas the Tank Engine is on the Swanage Railway in Dorset.

Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, Thomas has been exported all over the world and is now an international figure.

I have a nephew who was terrified of Thomas, but show him a big black steam engine and he was enchanted.
Les Auld: The face does it every time, Thanks for the comemnt Aussie.
The isle of Sodor lay somewhere between the Isle of Man and my dear old home town of Barrow-in-Furness, if I'm not mistaken.

There's a fine old tank engine lurking under that mask.
Les Auld: Never found it on a map. The loco works fine as well, thanks for the comment.
WOW! Them! A very peculiar photo. Diversion in the first plane and deep sadness to the bottom. Always the two faces of the currency. An interesting composition! You looked for something thus?
Les Auld: I did not notice the contrast Jose, well seen, thanks for the comment.
I loved Thomas as a child and my younger daughter loved the stories when she was young. Have you noticed what an unsafe railway Sodor has? Trains fall down embankments and holes. Trucks escape and they seal engines in tunnels! Poop poop little Thomassmile
Les Auld: I can just imagine the way the media would report the happenings on the railway, Thanks Bill.
