photoblog image Venus and Cupid?

Venus and Cupid?

This stands, or I suppose sits, at the northern end of Morcambe promenade. I have seen if it called "Morecambe Swingers" and "Venus and Cupid" but have not been able to find out much about it.

wow, a powerful shot, and quite the interesting sculpture as well.
I just love black and white photography
Les Auld: Thanks Leilani, I tried it in colour but felt it was not as effective.
Like the sculpture and the shot. Is Morcambe undergoing a cultural revival?
Les Auld: Thanks Ian. there has been quite a bit of money spent in Morecambe on the sea front and the Midland Hotel is undergoing renovation but I think it will need quite a bit more as well.

That's nice, what a fun statue.

I don't know if I'm right, but I remember Ginnie doing a series about sculptures, they were made of mosaics like this one, I wonder if they're the same artiste. Here's one of them

Les Auld: Had a look at the one from Ginnie but I don't think they are from the same sculpture, maybe wrong though. thanks for comenting Ellie.
Nice capture Les.
Les Auld: Thanks for the comment Bernie.
Great shot Les. Is this recent as I didn't see it when we were in Morecambe a couple of years ago?
Les Auld: I don't know whenit was installed but I remember seeing it a few years ago, unless my memory is playing tricks again. Thanks Bill.
Like the shot and the b&w processing! smile
Les Auld: Thanks Jose, appreciate the comment.

Nice piece of sculpture well suited to the B&W treatment. It looks large but judging by the grasses it must be life size? I'm surprised they didn't call it Morecambe and Wise. Good capture Les. David.
Les Auld: Thanks david, it seems to be larger than life close up. The original was quite dull and I felt B&W suited it more.
This is a brilliant picture Les: really powerful
Les Auld: Thanks Christopher, it is an intriguing structure.

i drove past this on Monday and wanted to stop and take a picture, but there was no time! Our photos today are just a few miles from each other. I really like this, especially the B&W treatment
Les Auld: I ahd driven past it many times before the cmera came out, youjust have to do it. Thanks Paul.
I like the way you have angled this shot with the child framed against the sky. Looks good in b/w. Morecambe Swingers brings to mind something quite different!
Ingrid
Les Auld: There are a few interesting options in composition for this one but this is the one that won through. Thanks Annie
I like the statue and how you have composed the pic Les.
Les Auld: Thanks Nigel, appreciate the comment.
