Bridge of Sighs

The last of the bridges in this group is the Bridge of Sighs in Cambridge. It spans the River Cam between the buildings of St. Johns College and is a covered walkway. No relation though to the bidge of the same name in Venice.

Is it functionally the same? Did they transport prisoners over it? It is definitely a good-looking bridge.
Les Auld: Thanks Martin if you can call undergarduates prisoners of education then I suppose you are right.

Amazing detail work on the bridge. Beautiful shot Les.
Les Auld: Thanks Aussie, the brdige is tucked away a bit and difficult to find. Took me a coulpe of hours walking around to find it.
The sharp detail on the bridge is amazing. Lovely photograph. (:o)

Up to now I only knew the Ponte de Sospiri in Venice. I guess the sighs here must be exam related, while in Venice they had to do with freshly convicted people going to jail/execution. Another thing I now realise is that if the river's name is Cam then there must be a bridge 'Cambridge' - picture?

Great picture of an interesting bridge.
A super addition to you bridge series
Another place I've never made it to. It's on my list. Attractive shot.
Picture postcard perfect. All the best, Dave.
This is my birth town Les. I know all the bridges on the 'lower river' in punting terminology. It's the bit of river below ''the Mill'' and Silver street ... if you know that area. I'll taking you punting I'm an expert ... Ha! Yes the bridge of Sighs looks just like that smiles.....richard.
Les Auld: Thanks Richard, glad to shake some memories out, I quite liked Cambridge but don't know it very well at all.
