photoblog image Cunard War Memorial

Cunard War Memorial

Located in front of the Cunard Building at Liverpool's Pier Head, the war memorial serves to commemorate the 134 Cunard employees who lost their lives in the First World War and also remembers all those who served and survived. It was also later dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Second World war

The bronze statue is the Figure of Victory atop a Roman Doric column in Granite and was sculpted by Henry Alfred Pegram. Unveiled in 1922 it originally cost £4,000.

In the background can be seen one of the clock towers of the Liver Building.
