photoblog image The Royal Liver at Sunset

The Royal Liver at Sunset

Towering above the more modern buildings around Princes Dock the Royal Liver Building at the Pier Head in Liverpool glows in the last rays of the evening sun.

The Liver Building is one of the iconic "Three Graces" that form the centrepiece of the World Heritage site that is the Liverpool waterfront. It is also one of the first large scale reinforced concrete buildings in the world, and certainly the first in Britain. The clock faces are also belived to be the largest in the world.

Such a shame about the unsympathetic bright red brick construction along side such a magnificent building. Capital of culture, philistines!
Les Auld: Modern architecture just does not seem to have the grandeur of the old, thanks for the comment Alistair.

And you caught it in its Magic Hour, Les!
Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, a place I love to wander around at sunset.
Impressive and wonderful shot : Bravo !!
Les Auld: Thanks Zeb, it is a great building.
Lovely tones and contrasts in this shot. All the best, Dave.
Les Auld: Thanks dave, must admit to a bit of touching up, but not much.
Lovely light on a lovely building, Les!
Les Auld: can't agree more, thanks dave.
Beautiful pic. It looks too sunny to be Liverpool. I agree with Alistair about the nondescript red building. The planners should have stopped that one.
Les Auld: Unfortunately planners don't always, or is that often, get it right. We do get plenty of evening sun, the best time for pictures. Thanks for the comment.
